Do you want a fast Internet connection?
How Fast is a Fast Internet Connection?
Part of the BT 21st Century Network (21CN) roll-out is a service known as Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC). Delivered across BT’s Next Generation Network this service provides a really Fast Internet Connection of up to 40Mbit/s download speed and a choice of either 2Mbit/s or 10Mbit/s upload speed.
How is the Fast Internet Connection Achieved?
The Fast Internet Connection is achieved by running fibre optic cable to the local BT street cabinet where the MSAN (Multi-service access node) is located. Placing the MSAN into the street cabinet which is connected by fibre, as apposed to delivering a broadband service over standard copper cables from your local premise to the exchange means the service is not as susceptible to the bandwidth “slow down” created by the noise from copper running over longer distances.
Will I be able to get a Fast Internet Connection?
At the moment FTTC is available at over 102 local exchanges, with coverage of more than 10,000,000 home and business premises by the summer of 2012.
Can I get a Fast Internet Connection now?
If you want to see if your local area is FTTC enabled, so that you can get a 40Mbit/s fast Internet connection to your business, then contact us and we can let you know. We can tell you if you can get a Fast Internet Connection now, or if you will have to wait for a while.
40Mbit/s not fast enough for a Fast Internet connection
Where premises are served directly by the local exchange as apposed to via a cabinet BT are currently trialling an alternative service known as Fibre To The Premise (FTTP) which will provide speeds of up to 100Mbit/s download. FTTP will available to 2.5 million homes by Summer 2012.
